The Upperroom Assembly of God Church was first organized in 1998 with the initial name Bronx Assembly of God. The church started with ten (100) charter members namely Mr. Prince Acheampong, Mr. & Mrs. George Amoah, Mr. & Mrs. George Assensoh, Mr. & Mrs. Fred Donkor, Mr. & Mrs. Charles Mensah, Miss. Joanne Tagoe and the Pioneer Pastor Rev. Paul Adu Antoh.
When the church began to grow, Rev. Dominic Owusu who came from Ghana, Africa took over to shepherd the church.
On February 29th 2004, the church pursuant to Article Twenty of the Religious Corporation Law of the State of New York was Incorporated.
Pastor Dominic led the church from December 1999 to July 2005. In July 2005, he went to Evangel University to further his education and later took an appointment to pastor Calvary Temple Assembly of God, Ghana.
Pastor Mark Asante Manu who was then the associate pastor took over church from 2005 until now. After two years of worshiping at Featherbed lane, Bronx NY, the landlord limited our days of worship by renting the place to people for other social gatherings which was contrary to our belief. So the church’s leadership rented a place at 450 E 149th St, Bronx NY. The church progressively grew in numbers with people from different backgrounds, social or racial, (i.e. doctors, educators, nurses, pharmacists, students, self-employed business men and women, etc). On and on, the church grew large in number that the place couldn’t contain the congregation.
So, with vision from God through his servant Pastor Mark, we bought our own place of worship that could contain more people. The church through the leadership of Pastor Mark Asante Manu, loyal service and dedicated giving made possible the purchase or obtaining mortgage for this present church building at 1074 Franklin Ave, Bronx NY in April 9th, 2009.
The church was officially elevated in statute of New York District Assemblies of God affiliated to General Council Church in affiliation with Assemblies of God, USA in March 14th, 2010. In December 2012, the church changed its name from Bronx Assembly of God to Upperroom Assembly of God to suit the vision God has given to the Senior Pastor and the church. The church has so far grown in membership of over 200.
The congregation looks backwards with appreciation for all that has gone before and forward with a sense of challenge to a renewed ministry and mission. Our present building renovation will be more accessible and comfortable as we continue to serve the community of the Bronx in Christ.
